Aries New Moon Tarot Reading, March 27th, 2017

The New Moon in Aries brings with it a sense of renewal and beginning. Spring is in the air! This is astrologically the first New Moon of the year and therefore carries a drive for action and change, fresh starts and growth. There is movement, dance, play, and creativity associated with Aries and the New Moon will crank up the emotional satisfaction achieved from DOING. This is a wonderful time to get things done, to make an action plan and then start ticking things off immediately. You might even put some things on your to do list that you’ve already done just so you can start crossing things off the list right away!

We’re working with Fire energy here so just a quick reminder that too much doing can cause burnout. Direct your resources wisely so that you’re focusing on what you actually want/need to get done instead of doing simply everything you are capable of doing. You’re capable of a lot right now, but even so there are limitations. When you’re feeling drained spend a little quiet time just contemplating fire. Build a beautiful bonfire to stare into if you can, but a simple candle will also do the trick. Breathe in creativity and motivation and then go getter dun.

Here’s some advice from the tarot on narrowing your focus, balancing out chaos, and having fun with the Aries New Moon:

The Wild Unknown Tarot: VII of Pentacles, II of Swords reversed, IV of Wands

What area(s) of your life requires immediate attention and action? VII of Pentacles
The Aries New Moon wants to bring fresh energy and point out unrealized potential in a goal or project that you have already started. In other words, this isn’t the time to develop a totally new focus or goal, but rather a time to break free of reflection and evaluation mode on a current project. You’ve made progress and achieved a certain level of success or completion, but right now you are a bit stalled. You’re looking over and contemplating and reviewing what has already happened. That’s all well and good, nice to know where you stand and how far you’ve come, but you’ve gotta break out of that now and keep going forward with your plan. Figure out where you have momentarily stagnated on a major goal and resolve to kick yourself back into action mode to take the goal all the way to completion.

Here are some ideas of goals you might have set and possible next steps:  If you are in school or studying, now is the time to start defining your thesis or final project. If you’re building a career, now is the time to look for that step up the career ladder. If you’re trying to grow your investments, now is the time to make a 5 year plan for your financial health. If you’re in a committed relationship, now is the time to ask yourself if you see a future with this partner. If you’re on a diet and fitness regime, now is the time to break out of a success plateau and reach for a new level of health. If you’re looking for love, you may have now developed the type of self love that will attract a partner. If you’re on a spiritual journey, it’s time to start upleveling closer to enlightenment. Wherever you feel like you’ve achieved a certain level of success, it’s time to ratchet it up to the next level.

Where or how are you creating chaos in life? II of Swords reversed
The thing that stops many of us on our quest for that next level or success is refusal or failure to make tough decisions. They decisions often involve us stepping out of our comfort zones, confronting uncomfortable or unimaginable situations, and going forward against fear. Our brains think up all kinds of things for us to be afraid of and our hearts quail at the thought of all that pain that will be caused by our deepest fears. Chaos can enter the situation in the form of information overload, overactive imagination, too many choices, multiple conflicting points of view, and nightmares blown out of proportion. The II of Swords reversed advises us that chaos enters our lives when we have tough decisions to make, but it can also be resolved and dissipate when we make a choice and commit to it. When we give a big middle finger to fear and do what we want in our hearts and minds, we effectively cut chaos in two, cripple it, stop it from ruling our lives. Now, more than ever, you need to make the choice to act and reach for your goals no matter how difficult or frightening it might seem.

How can you have more fun!?  IV of Wands
There is super charged potential for fun times this coming month. The IV of Wands is the ultimate card of celebration and hopefully we will all be celebrating because we have taken our goals to the next level and manifested our dreams into reality. The Wands represent Fire energy, just like this Aries New Moon, so we are all set to feel full of light. What lights you up? What fills you with creative vibes? What milestones do you want to reach? Doing or working towards what lights you up inside is a surefire way to have a good time.

The IV of Wands also advises that we will have fun when we spend time with community, family, and friends. Look at the calendar to see what special events are coming up in the next four weeks and make a point of joining in those celebrations. This is a great time to celebrate birthdays, engagements, marriages, births, graduation ceremonies, spring, Easter, etc. Any reason that you and your people have a reason to get together and celebrate is the perfect way to fill yourself up with happiness and light. Say yes to social invitations that honor milestones and accomplishments. When you participate in buoying up and acknowledging the people you love, you lift up everyone on this planet.

Have a wonderful and light-filled Dark Moon in Aries this fine Monday. I encourage you to engage responsible with fire, to have fun with your tribe, and to connect with your tarot deck using these prompts that I employed in this reading. I’m always available for personal email readings as well if you are moved to work with me. Happy Aries New Moon!

The energy of the Twos in the tarot is about making choices. With the Aces we were blessed with an idea, an inspiration, a goal, pure potential. Now, with the Twos we must decide how to act on that spark of possibility. How will be shape it? How can we let it take form? The II of Swords challenges us to make decisions in the realm of the mind. We must analyze, strategize, think it through rationally. These are the hallmarks of the suite of Swords: logic, truth, and fortitude. These are the idealism of the Ace though, and reality presents us with so many choices it can be overwhelming and cause us to become confused and shutdown.  We stand at an impasse, unsure of what path to take.

The II of Swords marks this stalemate, where we are faced with options and we don’t know what to choose. We are stopped in our tracks. It seems like we are lacking crucial information that will help with our decision making procress. Shouldn’t we know more? Should we wait and see what outside forces come into play?  Maybe our dream isn’t ready, or good enough, or right for this moment in time. These types of thoughts are resistance, they are blockages, they keep us stuck. The mind has a funny way of letting these negative thoughts keep cropping up until they trap us in place. Now we are not even sure if we want to try at all!

When the II of Swords comes up in a reading, try to get outside of your head. How do you feel both physically and emotionally?  What does your gut say? What does your heart say? What makes your soul soar? Pure logic and over rationalizing are getting in your way. It’s time to step out of your head and consult your intuition, your feelings, and your body.  You must make a decision in order to move on, so trust yourself. You will not chose wrong.

The biggest regret you can have with the II of Swords is failing to choose at all and remaining stuck at this impasse. Nothing happens here, only hesitation and doubt. You can’t know the future, you can’t be certain that everything will work out, but you can try your best. Be satisfied and reassured knowing that you are doing, you are deciding, you are choosing your life. That is the best you can do right now.

II of Swords Rider Waite Smith deck

II of Swords reversed:
With this card in reverse you may find that a time of thick indecision is passing away. You were rooted in place for a time, trying to make up your mind, but you succeeded in doing so. If you are thinking “wait a minute, I’m still stuck,” look a little closer. Don’t you actually already know what you want? You have chosen, you just haven’t filled your conscious mind in on the decision yet. Don’t back down now.  Follow that subconscious choice. It is the right one for you. You are going down the path of your destiny that is surely leading towards your aspirations.

If you listen in for that inkling of a subconscious decision and you hear nothing, well, this reversal might be showing you that you are hopelessly mired in denial. You simply will not make a decision to move forward. So here you will remain until you work through your options and begin to make some decisions. Do you want to remain stuck here? What purpose it your resistance serving?  What do you gain by remaining here?

You are confused. You feel misinformed. You feel cheated or lied to on purpose. Where are these feelings and thoughts coming from? How can you work on these issues? What bad experiences from the past do you need to confront and let go of before you will be able to move forward.

Choosing is difficult, it essentially kills one of your other options. Yet, that is life.  We can only go down one path, even if there are a ton of awesome options, we can only choose one.  And it’s time to face the music. You will ultimately never know what would have happened if? ….and that’s ok. You will know what happens if something else, and that is worth knowing.  So open up and decide.

Pondering the II of Swords, What Else?!

II of Swords Rider Waite Smith

II of Swords
Rider Waite Smith

Today I drew the reversed Two of Swords as my card of the day, which isn’t a rare occasion for my daily card draw.  The Swords represent the element Air, which is about mental force, communication, the intellect, and generally things happening in your head.  The twos in numerology are often about choices and decision-making.  I have a lot of Air in my natal chart and am quite aware that I spend a lot of time in my head, often weighing out options and delaying decisions.  Well, I don’t think of it as delaying- what’s wrong with a little deliberation if a choice must be made?!  Inevitably choices must be made in life,  but when the II of Swords come up reversed I can’t help but complain- “why so many!?”

Whenever the II of Swords comes up reversed, I feel a little warning bell go off, chiming that today may be a day with too much information and competing possibilities.  This overload causes me to feel overwhelmed, my head to spin, and decisions to drift further afield into the land of “I really can’t even think about that anymore today!”  Sometimes I just want to sit quietly under the moonlight, preferably next to a body of water, wearing a comfy dress, eyes closed, heart still, thoughts quiet…. and find that little voice inside me that can make the decisions that seem to overwhelm my mind during the day.  Looking at the image in the RWS deck, I know that the figure has blocked her heart emotions with her crossed arms, and shut down her mental facilities with that blindfold, which leads me to believe that a decision can only be reached using intuition and spiritual guidance from her higher self.  When the card is reversed, I know that I’m not able to listen to my intuition or that a decision must wait until a time when I can process, reflect, open up, and then move forward down one path or the other.  Not today though!  I really can’t think of about all that needs to get done and decided anymore today!  I can put on my pjs and look to the moon though, hopefully to fall asleep and dream of the beach…
