Innovative Aquarius New Moon Reading for January 27th, 2017

The New Moon today arrives in the sign of Aquarius. This is the sign of innovation, originality, larger perspective, and revolution. If you want to shake things up in your life, this is the perfect New Moon to energize your intentions to make your own rules, take a risk, and be your true, unique, unconventional self. Open yourself up during this New Moon to receive completely new, unlooked for, and unprecedented ideas. You may be shocked and wonderfully surprised to have a breakthrough in understanding about your life purpose and what you want to do with that purpose. You have an increased capacity to learn and discovery new things with Aquarius now.

You are still only human though and have some limitations. Remember to set your priorities and not over schedule and exhaust yourself in the next two weeks of the waxing Moon. Pick the idea, project, or inspiration that you are most drawn to now and zero in your focus on huge progress instead of spreading yourself too thin over a ton of great ideas. You’ll have lots of other New Moons this year to work with so pick the intentions that will best be realized with the helpful energy of Aquarius! Here is some pertinent advice from the tarot on how to work with this gorgeous and bright Aquarius New Moon energy:

The Linestrider Tarot: Queen of Wands, II of Pentacles reversed, IX of Swords reversed

How can I best be my unique, unconventional self? Queen of Wands
Oh yes! The Queen of Wands is a shining example of how to be authentic to yourself. As with all the Queens, she is deeply and maturely connected to her inner, emotional world. She understands herself, accepts herself, and wants to share that self-confident vibe with those around her. The Queens all have the capacity and the propensity to nurture and support. Right now there is a vibrant energy not only to be your own, unique self, but to lift others up to shine brighter as their true, magical selves.

The gift of the suit of Wands is just that- magical. Wands is fire energy, the shine from deep within that lights up our lives and helps us light up the lives of those around us. The Queen of Wands asks you to get in touch with what lights you up inside. What is your divine spark? What is your inspiration you want to develop and share? What is your creation power? The Queen of Wands can be viewed as The Magician at work in this world, manifesting her ideas into reality. When you connect to what makes you special, different, unique, wild and free, you channel that ability to make your life and yourself into whatever you desire. You are not limited by societal values or regulations, you are encouraged and empowered to be whatever it is that you were born to be. Let the Queen of Wands be your guide in saying YES! to your soul purpose and your Higher Self.

What area of my life needs the most focused r/evolution right now? II of Pentacles rx
The II of Pentacles is all about multi-tasking, getting things done, taking on the world and it’s mountain of obligations and kicking ass. Yet, with this reversal we are being asked to narrow it down, to focus on one task at a time, to say no to that which we aren’t drawn to do. The world can ask us to do a hell of a lot. In fact, it can be an overwhelming and impossible amount that society demands of us. We are supposed to work and have a career, develop ourselves and have hobbies, be healthy, active, eat well, support our friends and family, buy everything that is made, have more fun than our neighbors, and never settle until we have lived our dreams. BLARGH- that is just too much.

Instead of doing, doing, doing, the II of Pentacles rx would like you to take a step back right now with the New Moon. Sit down and focus on just one thing- rest. What does it feel like to be still? Can you stop your thoughts? Can you stop your busy body? What visions emerge when you clear your mind of the day-to-day and allow for a larger perspective on your life. Instead of getting bogged down in the details of what is happening in your life right now, set yourself free into the joy and peace of the moment. Try to frolic and float on the idea that you are alive, you are possibility, you can create. When you are filled with that joy of being you and being able to do so much- then go ahead and ask yourself what you actually want to do with that ability. Dream big! This could be your entire life purpose that you are realizing, so remember that it takes an entire lifetime to fulfill a life purpose. Give it all the time you have.

How can I ground myself when I’m carried away with new ideas?  IX of Swords rx
The IX of Swords are the cyclical thoughts that spiral into negativity and anxiety. We all have them and we all are obliged to deal with them. Part of being human is having a brain that never wants to stop spinning out thoughts and tends to repeat and prioritize thoughts about fear, worry, defeat, and despair. Why it has to be like this, I don’t know. The good news is that we can learn to be aware of our thoughts, even if we can’t control their incessant nagging that we are the worst, and will fail, and are just not worth it. When you are aware that you are thinking bad thoughts about yourself and those around you, you can decide not to listen to those thoughts. They are crazy! They aren’t true! They are you!

The IX of Swords asks us to double down on that awareness and also to let those thoughts go. Try to work past the point of recognizing and dealing with your anxieties and move towards recognizing and dismissing them. Basically, try to spend less time with your thoughts and more time with a clear mind. Perhaps its time to step up your meditation practice and really get comfortable with a state of no thought. I know I am terrible at this, so I will try to start really small: 3 calming breathes or a 5 minute guided meditation or just a moment to put my hands on the ground or a tree and be one with the energy of this world. I am a part of it after all. Keep working to be the master of your thoughts and the effort will get easier. Your thoughts want to keep you from being your authentic self, but you know you don’t want them to succeed. 🙂

An Abundant New Moon in Taurus Tarot Reading, May 6, 2016

There is a beautiful New Moon in the sign of Taurus today.  Yippee!  Taurus is an Earth sign so this is a great time to put your plans into physical form, perhaps by writing them down. What are you looking to create?  Where are you seeking abundance?  What fertile soil do you contain now that can optimize growth in your life?  Take some time for yourself to really relax and explore these questions.

Treat yourself not only to time off for meditation and journaling but also to luxurious treats at the Taurus New Moon. Think about scheduling a massage, buying a new outfit, eating a fancy meal, or beautifying your home with flowers or new colors. Focusing on the beautiful, lovely, abundant aspects of your life will help you attract more of these Taurus characteristics into your life with this New Moon. Venus is also in her natural sign of Taurus right now, so there is double potential for experiencing pleasure, intimacy and love at this time.  How lovely for us all!

The tarot has some great advice for us right now at the New Moon in Taurus for working towards financial security, loving relationships, and physical relaxation. If you would like a personalized reading, please get in touch at or check out my email readings page!

What will help me move confidently toward my goals for financial security and abundance?– Page of Cups

The Page of Cups brings messages of love, abundance, and fresh emotional starts.  This card is Venus telling you that you already have everything you need in order to be financially secure and abundant. What you really need is more joy, sunshine, and love in your life, not more money.  When you focus on what brings you happiness, on enjoying your youth or your fresh starts, and stop worrying about money, you will find that you actually are secure.  Does money buy love?  It seems to be common knowledge in all cultures that money does not equal happiness.  What is the point of your life then- to be happy or to be rich?  If you can’t have both, wouldn’t you pick happiness?  What would be the point of financially abundant life if all that money did not bring an abundance of love and joy? The Page of Cups is here to tell you that the more confidently you reach for happiness, the closer you will come to financial abundance. A life in which you focus on what you love instead of what you lack relieves anxiety, improves quality of life, and enhances your relationships by being a person that others enjoy

The Hanged Man Shadowscapes Tarot

How can I create more love, acceptance, and intimacy in my relationships?- The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man asks you to be patient, to be still, to listen and observe.  Are you allowing your loved ones to be themselves?  Are you acknowledging the unique traits of the people in your life and allowing them to shine forth in their best capacity? Oftentimes, when we try to change people, when we try to put them in a box, or make them conform, we limit and suppress our ability to love.  People can change.  We all change every day.  Humans are not static, but that change works best when it comes from within. When we force others to change, it usually leads to unhappiness and doesn’t stick anyway.  The Hanged Man suffers a bit from not being able to influence the world as she waits for a shift in perspective, a change in the wind, the right moment to act.  There is much suffering in life, though, it’s a given.  The willingness to wait for a phase to be completed usually deepens our most intimate relationships.  We allow our children to be teenagers for years, knowing we will love the adults they become even if they are little nightmares in the meantime.  We accept that our partners will go through career uncertainty, Saturn returns, midlife crises, etc, but who they essentially are doesn’t change. Our souls are eternal and lovable. The Hanged Man goes with that flow, trying to see from new angles, and waiting to understand instead of reacting tactlessly.

How can I invite more relaxation, patience, and luxury into my life?- IX of Swords

The biggest hurdle to finding relaxation is anxiety. Relaxation and anxiety are opposites.  They are mortal enemies.  If we put our anxieties aside relaxation enters to soothe, fortify, and rejuvenate us. When anxieties win out we exhaust, deplete, and confuse ourselves with striving and worrying.  The Taurus New Moon wants you to stay, “NO!” to anxieties for a little bit.  Will a facial solve your issues at work?  Will a gourmet meal solve your weightloss concerns? Will a bouquet of flowers help pay the rent at that apartment?  Probably not, but a little self care might just give you the strength to confront your challenges with renewed determination and clarity of vision.  You weren’t going to solve all of your problems tonight regardless, so why not take the night off, heat up some water, steam your pores open and then give them a scrub with some honey and sea salt.  It’s just an hour of your night, you already have all those things in your kitchen, and you’ll feel so lovely afterwards you won’t be so anxious about your work, weight, love life, kids, problems, etc. This goes along with the Page of Cups urging you to focus on love and positivity.  Take a break from anxiety and the negative, it doesn’t help anyone for you to be a dark storm cloud, least of all yourself!

New Moon Reading for February 18th, 2015

Another moon cycle comes to a close and so another begins!  This New Moon in air sign Aquarius will be occurring tonight February 18th, 2015.  This is the second New Moon in Aquarius in a row, so we get a second chance to super charge our unique, intellectual ideas, especially those focusing on the group and the greater good of humanity. The moon will be heading into Pisces shortly though, so there is a dreamy quality to this New Moon which allows us to expand our vision into a magical land of possibility.  This is an excellent time to set a couple of intentions or goals for the coming four weeks. Working with this short energy cycle of the moon can help you get in touch with your own inner four week energy cycles, and manifest smaller parts of your overall year goals.  Today I asked the tarot cards for advice for all of us on setting our intentions now at the Aquarius New Moon. Enjoy and best of luck with making progress on your goals in the next four weeks!

What energy will help you:  IX of Swords reversed
It is time to release and let go of anxiety. The best advice on moving forward is to set aside doubts, worries, anguish, and anxieties. These types of emotions do not serve to aid you in any way toward your intentions. Especially if you consider yourself a worry wart, now is the time to stop identifying yourself with your constant mental script of what ifs and negative outcomes. Open yourself up to positivity, to the idea that you can accomplish your goals, that nothing is going to get in your way, and anything that tries to get in your way will be integrated into your plan. I know, it can be incredibly difficult to let go of doubt and anxiety.  These can become ingrained patterns. Try performing a ritual to release negativity. Write down all your negative thoughts and emotions on a piece of paper and then destroy that paper.  If you can safely burn it, I would recommend putting your doubts to the fire of your passions and letting all of your positive, creative energy reduce your worry to ashes.

What will hinder your intentions now:  X of Wands
Feeling burdened by all your goals will hinder you in working toward any of them effectively.  Perhaps you are overwhelmed with all of the projects, goals, and intentions you want to set. It’s time to narrow it down! Focus on what really lights you up at this time and let the other goals go for now.  I know it can be hard to not follow through on every good idea you have, but if you are generating more ideas than you have the ability to take on at this time, your overwhelm is not helping the situation. Overwhelm causes inertia and that’s what those doubts and anxieties creep back in and stop your progress. Write down each vision you have for creativity and keep those pages handy to remind you that you can always pick those other ideas back up later when the time is right. Now with a clear mind you will then have so much more energy and drive to work on the smaller, manageable goals that you are really pumped about right now.

What to expect in the coming month:  IX of Wands
Determination and stamina are on your side in the coming moon cycle. All that energy around your amazing projects and intentions that we see in the last card, X of Wands, is going to give you the drive to continue on and make great progress this month. Once you narrow down your focus to one or two intentions to accomplish this month, the IX of Wands says that nothing can stop you from keeping on toward you goal. Remember to break your huge goals for the whole year or for your whole life! into smaller increments that you can take on in shorter cycles. A four week moon cycle is perfect for this. Take some time tonight to release old anxieties, reflect on the bigger picture of your soul purpose, and then ask yourself what you are passionate about creating right now.  The Wands want you to express that creativity this coming month, working tirelessly toward that vision you have swelling inside of you at this time.  Reach toward the dark moon tonight and encourage yourself to have the will be successful right now!  You are already perfect, you can only add to that!

Blessed New Moon!  I hope you let these insightful messages from the tarot help to guide you in the coming moon cycle starting tonight.  If you would like to share your own experiences, New Moon wishes, or order a personalized New Moon reading, please get in touch at!

Tarot Blog Hop- Union of Opposites

Welcome to The Willow Path Tarot to everyone on the Tarot Blog Hop!  This season’s hop is about The Union of Opposites which come together beautifully at this fresh and fertile time of year at Beltane.  Spring is announcing itself loud and clear in the northern hemisphere (even though it may be only 45F here in Boston!  Eek!), with luscious flowers and budding tree leaves.  The great blue heron was back on the river today when I walked to work, which must be the first true blessing of May Day.

The very nature of our existence revolves around opposites.  We have no way of defining something without an equal definition of that thing’s opposite.  Try to understand what night time is without having any knowledge of daylight, and you will see what I mean.  One must exist for the other to exist. This is true of all opposites, making it easy for us to see how wonderful the creative union of these opposites can be.

The major arcana of the tarot explores the truly grand oppositions of our lives.  An example of this is The Moon as night, and The Sun as day, representing an archetypal oppositions around which our entire Earth revolves.  More major arcana oppositions can be seen in The Empress as the archetype of the feminine while The Emperor represents the masculine.  The Hermit can signify inward exploration while The World is indicative of outer exploration.  The Lovers, the tarot card of Beltane, is the essence of the union of opposites in just one card.  There are many ways to show these necessary and beautiful oppositions because the major arcana cards are guiding forces in our lives.

The minor arcana, being a mirror to reflect our daily lives, is naturally created out of oppositions as well.   The tarot can help us explores these everyday challenges in helpful and productive ways.  Often oppositions will present themselves in a reading, showing you the two sides of your question or issue.  Sometimes just one side of an issue will pop up and it can be helpful to then think to yourself- ok, now what is the opposite of this situation?  What do I want to bring into my life more, and what needs to back off a bit to create a happy union of these opposites?  Opposing cards are helpful for delving into the multifaceted lives that we live.  Here are a few opposing minor arcana pairs that I noticed while going through the deck for this blog post:

V of Wands                   Rider Wait deck

VIII of Cups                   Rider Waite deck

V of Wands:

Fighting for what you want and need, getting what you deserve

as opposed to

VIII of Cups:
Walking away from what you don’t need, leaving behind what doesn’t serve you

Union of Opposites:
Recognizing what you should fight for and what you should walk away from, finding a healthy balance between your physical and emotional needs.

VII of Swords               Rider Waite deck

III of Pentacles           Rider Waite deck

VII of Swords:

Being a lonewolf, acting out of your own self interest, being fiercely independent

as opposed to

III of Pentacles:
Working as a group, doing what’s best for everyone, combining efforts

Union of Opposites:
Knowing when to work alone and when to consult the group, integrating your own personal freedom with the needs of the group.

VI of Pentacles           Rider Waite deck

IV of Pentacles             Rider Wait deck

VI of Pentacles:

Charitable giving, giving freely of materials possessions to those in need

as opposed to

IV of Pentacles:
Miserliness, holding tightly to materials possessions all for oneself

Union of Opposites:  Balancing out how much you receive and how much you give, knowing when to hold on tight and when to release.

IV of Swords Rider Waite deck

VII of Wands              Rider Waite deck

VII of Wands:

Spirited action, effort and movement, passion and attack

as opposed to

IV of Swords:
Spirited inaction, rest and relaxation, meditation and healing

Union of Opposites:   Finding the strength to carry on by giving yourself space and time to relax and heal, knowing when to go full speed ahead and when to stop and contemplate.

III of Cups Rider Waite deck

IX of Swords Rider Waite deck

III of Cups:

Celebration with friends, harmony and acceptance, community

as opposed to

IX of Swords:
Dread and misery alone at night, anxieties and fears, isolation

Union of Opposites:  Recognizing the dual pitfalls of carefree partying as well as losing yourself in worry and anxiety, finding a healthy balance between alone and social time.

This is just the very tip of the iceberg on oppositions that are represented in the minor arcana of the tarot.  Exploring these opposites and how they explain and facilitate their opposing cards through an intrinsic union can be revelatory and inspiring.  I hope you enjoyed this post in the Tarot Blog Hop and stay to check out more of my blog or return in the future!  Don’t forget to explore your own tarot deck to find the meaningful union of opposites between those cards that most sing to you!

Tarot at the MFA

MFA Boston

Linde Family Wing of Contemporary Art
MFA Boston

Last week I took a little trip to the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.  I love to go to art museums, although I steer clear of reading the descriptions of the art usually because they can sound so snobby, affected, and irrelevant to my enjoyment of the art.  Instead I saw tarot tarot everywhere!  Ever since I started up an Instagram account for The Willow Path Tarot, I’ve had my eye out for things I see around me that remind me of the tarot cards.  This is a great way for me to practice tarot card meanings, help me be more observant of the world around me, and also to creatively connect my love of tarot and photography. Hobbies fused!  Anyway, as I wandered around the MFA I took some photos of works of art that resonated with me and thought about with which tarot card I would connect that feeling and image.

Above you will see the work of art that struck me immediately as The Fool.  Unfortunately, I didn’t find out the artists name, or the name of the piece (a hazard of not reading the plaque!), so sorry super talented artist if you see this and feel unrepresented. I’m happy to credit this if someone knows who did it!  Anyway, a long hallway stretching from one end of the museum to the other had many of these free flying figures, taking the leap of faith on their journeys.  The Fool is one of my favorite cards, and this was the first piece of art that really jumped out and me and said:  “The tarot is also artwork based on human archetypes, therefore won’t it be possibly to relate all the art in this museum to a tarot card?”  Isn’t that the very nature of art- to reflect, question, and explain the human archetypes?  Would I find any work of art in this museum that did not relate to a tarot card?  If I did, would that mean that there are essential cards missing from the tarot?  I have heard of some decks with an added card for The Artist. How is this archetype different from say, The Magician?

Ellsworth Kelly, Blue Green Yellow Orange Red (Blue panel), 1968

Ellsworth Kelly, Blue Green Yellow Orange Red (Blue panel), 1968

I was also drawn to this rainbow piece of art.  It made me think of the happiness and contentment of the X of Cups or The Sun.  Notice the line on the floor in front of the painting- this is as close as you are supposed to get before a little alarm goes off warning you that you are too close to the painting.  I was surprised at how often the alarm sounded throughout this exhibit in the Linde Family Gallery of Contemporary Art.  It seems many people needed to get super close to inspect the art.  Even a painting that is seemingly as straightforward as these blocks of color can still lure people to get a closer look.  The ability to touch and play with the tarot cards makes a tarot reading a tangible, hands on experience of art.  I love the feeling of shuffling a tarot deck between my fingers and I usually encourage my tarot clients to touch and interact with the cards.  I think this lends intention and intuition into a reading that can bring the reading to a deeper level.

One more piece of art from the exhibit, and then I’ll be done talking about art for today :). This piece on the left was truly captivating to me.  The never ending illusion of glass containers stretching back into eternity reminded me immediately of the VII of Cups. These vessels could hold limitless opportunities, but which of them are real and which of them are illusions? This also brought to mind the X of Wands, feeling overwhelmed and burdened, not being able to see your way through to an easier, less busy time.  Then the IX of Swords popped into my mind- anxiety!  Hopefully I don’t wake up in the night unable to shake the stress and worry over all those endless bottles, containing all those endless possibilities and challenges.

Lime Green Icicle Tower, Dale Chihuly

Ok, I lied- one more photo to close out the post. I loved the Chihuly exhibit when it came to the MFA a couple of years ago and am so glad they were able to hang onto this giant green tree guy.  What could better represent a passionate, creative spark than this tower of glass?  It is the Ace of Wands through and through.  I hope this post inspires you to open your eyes to the archetypes of tarot around you.  Each of our experience of life is connected, intertwined, combined, and co-created to contribute to one big human experience.  Creating and appreciating art are great ways to tap into that shared energy within and around us.
