Aries New Moon Tarot Reading, March 27th, 2017

The New Moon in Aries brings with it a sense of renewal and beginning. Spring is in the air! This is astrologically the first New Moon of the year and therefore carries a drive for action and change, fresh starts and growth. There is movement, dance, play, and creativity associated with Aries and the New Moon will crank up the emotional satisfaction achieved from DOING. This is a wonderful time to get things done, to make an action plan and then start ticking things off immediately. You might even put some things on your to do list that you’ve already done just so you can start crossing things off the list right away!

We’re working with Fire energy here so just a quick reminder that too much doing can cause burnout. Direct your resources wisely so that you’re focusing on what you actually want/need to get done instead of doing simply everything you are capable of doing. You’re capable of a lot right now, but even so there are limitations. When you’re feeling drained spend a little quiet time just contemplating fire. Build a beautiful bonfire to stare into if you can, but a simple candle will also do the trick. Breathe in creativity and motivation and then go getter dun.

Here’s some advice from the tarot on narrowing your focus, balancing out chaos, and having fun with the Aries New Moon:

The Wild Unknown Tarot: VII of Pentacles, II of Swords reversed, IV of Wands

What area(s) of your life requires immediate attention and action? VII of Pentacles
The Aries New Moon wants to bring fresh energy and point out unrealized potential in a goal or project that you have already started. In other words, this isn’t the time to develop a totally new focus or goal, but rather a time to break free of reflection and evaluation mode on a current project. You’ve made progress and achieved a certain level of success or completion, but right now you are a bit stalled. You’re looking over and contemplating and reviewing what has already happened. That’s all well and good, nice to know where you stand and how far you’ve come, but you’ve gotta break out of that now and keep going forward with your plan. Figure out where you have momentarily stagnated on a major goal and resolve to kick yourself back into action mode to take the goal all the way to completion.

Here are some ideas of goals you might have set and possible next steps:  If you are in school or studying, now is the time to start defining your thesis or final project. If you’re building a career, now is the time to look for that step up the career ladder. If you’re trying to grow your investments, now is the time to make a 5 year plan for your financial health. If you’re in a committed relationship, now is the time to ask yourself if you see a future with this partner. If you’re on a diet and fitness regime, now is the time to break out of a success plateau and reach for a new level of health. If you’re looking for love, you may have now developed the type of self love that will attract a partner. If you’re on a spiritual journey, it’s time to start upleveling closer to enlightenment. Wherever you feel like you’ve achieved a certain level of success, it’s time to ratchet it up to the next level.

Where or how are you creating chaos in life? II of Swords reversed
The thing that stops many of us on our quest for that next level or success is refusal or failure to make tough decisions. They decisions often involve us stepping out of our comfort zones, confronting uncomfortable or unimaginable situations, and going forward against fear. Our brains think up all kinds of things for us to be afraid of and our hearts quail at the thought of all that pain that will be caused by our deepest fears. Chaos can enter the situation in the form of information overload, overactive imagination, too many choices, multiple conflicting points of view, and nightmares blown out of proportion. The II of Swords reversed advises us that chaos enters our lives when we have tough decisions to make, but it can also be resolved and dissipate when we make a choice and commit to it. When we give a big middle finger to fear and do what we want in our hearts and minds, we effectively cut chaos in two, cripple it, stop it from ruling our lives. Now, more than ever, you need to make the choice to act and reach for your goals no matter how difficult or frightening it might seem.

How can you have more fun!?  IV of Wands
There is super charged potential for fun times this coming month. The IV of Wands is the ultimate card of celebration and hopefully we will all be celebrating because we have taken our goals to the next level and manifested our dreams into reality. The Wands represent Fire energy, just like this Aries New Moon, so we are all set to feel full of light. What lights you up? What fills you with creative vibes? What milestones do you want to reach? Doing or working towards what lights you up inside is a surefire way to have a good time.

The IV of Wands also advises that we will have fun when we spend time with community, family, and friends. Look at the calendar to see what special events are coming up in the next four weeks and make a point of joining in those celebrations. This is a great time to celebrate birthdays, engagements, marriages, births, graduation ceremonies, spring, Easter, etc. Any reason that you and your people have a reason to get together and celebrate is the perfect way to fill yourself up with happiness and light. Say yes to social invitations that honor milestones and accomplishments. When you participate in buoying up and acknowledging the people you love, you lift up everyone on this planet.

Have a wonderful and light-filled Dark Moon in Aries this fine Monday. I encourage you to engage responsible with fire, to have fun with your tribe, and to connect with your tarot deck using these prompts that I employed in this reading. I’m always available for personal email readings as well if you are moved to work with me. Happy Aries New Moon!

Birthday Reading for My Year of The Lovers

Another birthday, another birthday tarot reading! My birthday was July 8th and it was fantastic. My sister came in from Philly and two friends from Boston came for a visit as well and we just lived it up. That’s why my reading write up is a little late! I did schedule in the time to draw the cards on my actual birthday though, because that just makes me so happy. If you want to do a birthday reading for yourself, or have me do one for you, it really doesn’t have to be on your birthday. I just love the symbolism and the nurturing effect of spending quality time focusing on myself on my special annual day.

I’m entering a new tarot year cycle, like you do every year, and this one will be ruled by The Lovers. The Lovers represent personal values and personal belief systems. They come after the energy of The Hierophant which is society telling you the norms of behavior, emotion, action, and belief. With The Lovers comes self-made decisions and choices about what you personally believe and how you want to align your actions with those beliefs. These decisions often involve how and who we love, how we form partnerships, and what we believe and do in our relationships. I’m going to get married during my year of The Lovers! Whoot!

I will get to writing more of my thoughts on what a year of The Lovers entails at a later date, but for now, I’m exploring the possibilities of how The Lovers energy will manifest in my current year through this tarot reading. Here are the cards from The Wild Unknown Tarot deck that I drew and the meanings of the positions below:

What do I bring with me to this year of The Lovers? Ace of Wands
Creativity, ideas, passion, drive, fecundity. This looks like the best card of the draw to me right now! 🙂 I’m bringing a lot of enthusiasm and fresh energy with me to the start of this year. The Ace of Wands reminds me of all the ideas and creative projects I have going on right now. It feels like I have something wonderful to bring with me, that I am inspired, and ready to create. I can bring sunshine, creativity, and a sense of blossoming into the coming year. There is a lot of potential with the Ace of Wands, the key is to tap into that potential, work hard, and make something happen. Pure potential is great, but it doesn’t manifest on it’s own- I have to make use of it. It is a seed that needs to be nurtured in order for it to grow. My challenge is to keep going when the initial excitement of the year’s beginning recedes and I have still have to do the work of caring for and growing my projects.

What is The Lovers beneficial influence?- V of Swords reversed
Learning to get along, figuring out how to communicate, refraining from competition. The V of Swords reversed signals the cessation of the classic struggle inherent in all 5 cards in the tarot deck. The Swords often have to do with a battle of the mind, so this year could find me learning how to quiet the negative voice inside my head that says, “You’re not doing as well as others. You are not fitting in. You need to beat the competition. You are not worthy of love. You are doing a bad job at life.” Or any other dark thought pattern that acts to separate myself mentally from those around me because I’ve decided that we are at odds. The Lovers is a card of harmony, it’s about working together towards common goals, it’s realizing that we are all one, and there is room for each of us to succeed. This year is a time for compromise and focusing on shared goals. It is a year for learning to love myself and to value my contribution to the world.

What blocks or oppositions need I be aware of?- III of Swords reversed
Refusal to make decisions, carrying past hurts, stuck in a negative space. Ah yes, the challenge for me this year will also be about the mental blocks that keep me from feeling integrated and whole with the Universe. We are all guilty of getting stuck thinking about how things have gone wrong in the past and sinking into our suffering and sorrow. Life is suffering! Yes, but it is also joy. It is a balance. It is a duality, just like The Lovers. This card shows us the yin and yang of life and asks us to make an effort to figure out the process of integration into a whole self. The III of Swords reversed is a clear warning to me that I will tend towards the negative this year, shying away from compromise, holding onto grudges, and keeping a narrow worldview. That is basically how the mind works in general, so my obstacle is known and acknowledged. Now all I have to do is keep that awareness and not let it stop me from working towards the integrated harmony of The Lovers. That’s it!?

What do I need to learn during this cycle?- The Hermit reversed
Coming out of my shell, spiritual connection to others, involvement in the world. I love being The Hermit, spending my time in quiet contemplation and isolation, exploring my calm inner center and the spiritual mysteries of life. This Hermit behavior is solitary though, and a year of The Lovers is about connection. I would love to learn this year how to connect and how to enjoy that sharing with others on a spiritual level. I want more people to find my tarot business and join with me on this path of discovery and self-awareness. I want to create a supportive and nurturing community that helps to lift each other up, instead of relying solely on my own resources to grown and protect myself. This is a difficult thing for me, it will not come naturally. The next card, The Emperor, has some advice on how I can effectively leave my shell and be more extroverted in the world.

How can I best incorporate these lessons into my life?- The Emperor
Confidence, authority, extroversion, nonstop power poses. The Emperor is the epitome of outward confidence, discipline, and authority. He truly knows what he knows and is not afraid or shy to exhibit that. The masculine energy here means doing and involvement, not being and isolation. I need to define my structures and trust in my foundation. Honestly, I feel like I do have a lot of self-confidence, I’m just not particularly keen on sharing that with others. I feel like the message here is, “Just do it.” Use fire energy to do without overplanning, overthinking it, or hesitation. I really can’t accomplish my goals by being the Hermit, no matter how much I would love it if that happened. Perhaps a bit of time working with the outward energy of the Emperor is enough so that I can build up a sustainable business and then go back within in the future, where I like to hang out.

What area of my life will be most influenced by The Lovers?- IV of Pentacles reversed
Financial stability will be difficult to achieve, feelings of security in the world will be lacking. Things are not looking so well financially for me at this time. Moving to Nashville, car repairs, medical bills, it all adds up and The Willow Path Tarot isn’t quite at the point where it covers all the expenses, nor is touring with Kristen. The IV of Pentacles reversed is all about holding onto your money, perhaps even greedily, but definitely not spending wads of cash on whatever might be tantalizing and shiny in the moment. Perhaps this year I will better define my relationship to money, or at least define it at all. Right now I feel like I am a super responsible money manager, paying my bills, and knowing to the penny what my cashflow situation is. Yet at the same time I am a super good vacation planner budgeting meticulously for the longest, most fun trip. I can earn it, but I can also spend it. What will make me happier though? Getting a steady job and having some money in the bank? Or being self-employed and having the freedom to make my own schedule but without that financial security? Perhaps this year of The Lovers will help me align my financial goals and values with my actual work actions.

What will be the most likely result at the end of this year?- Father of Pentacles reversed
Finances out of wack, time management skills lacking, not succeeding in being an Emperor. The way things are going right now I’m really resisting the need to get out of my introverted state and do more out in the world. The Father of Pentacles is the ultimate business manager. He knows how to market himself, set his financial goals, and work to achieve them. I’m really good at knowing what my goals are, but not on the part about working and moving towards those goals. I make great plans, but I do not execute well. If I truly want to succeed in growing my business, creating a firm financial structure, and feeling secure in my physical world, I need to be more present and involved in that physical world. I need to show up, connect, ground, and interact. This is my wake up call that if I don’t change my outlook on work, home, and finances, I’m not going to make any progress in ruling this domain during this year of The Lovers. The Lovers do not lend me much help here because they are associated with Gemini and Air, which is so my thing, living in the cerebral world of thinking and planning. The energy energy of the Father of Pentacles reversed reminds me that I may be in my air element with a Lovers year, but my element does not support the kind of physical security in the world that I am craving right now. I need to adjust course and work towards my goals more concretely.

Okay, well there you have it, my birthday reading for myself. I feel like there is big work to be done this year and I know where to focus my energy if I am committed to growth. I know there are tons of grounding things I can do for myself to support that growth and I am excited to put in the effort. My life feels purposeful and directed, now my challenge is to follow that feeling.  Wish me luck!

Capricorn New Moon Reading for January 9, 2016

The year starts out, as per usual, with a New Moon in Capricorn. Capricorn is associated with ambition, determination, and practicality. These are the perfect characteristics for goal-setting and planning at the beginning of a new lunar cycle, and more importantly- a NEW YEAR!  (My excitement about 2016 has not worn off just yet!!) We humans seem to love making resolutions at the beginning of the year, but we don’t tend to love following through on them. I know I’ve made a million resolutions and am already a bit nervous about how my follow through is going. Why is that? Maybe it’s because we don’t make those resolutions any fun! Well, I think the tarot makes everything more fun, so I’m going to use the Wild Unknown Tarot deck to ask for some guidance for all of us at this turning point in the year. Let’s see what advice we receive for making our goals more achievable and joyful this time around!

The Wild Unknown Tarot deck

What will help me effectively plan my creations for the year?- VII of Cups reversed
It’s time to break down illusions. Whatever fantasies or pipe dreams you are holding onto from the past, now is the time to let them go in order to plan for the future. Perhaps you are sad that you will never be a ballerina or an astronaut, but you know what, you are something else right now. Focus on the person you are who actually exists now, instead of lamenting the person you thought you were going to be. What do you like about yourself? What do you want to improve? If you absolutely must be a ballerina, start taking classes now! Make some specific and achievable steps that will get you moving in the right direction.

The VII of Pentacles reversed also asks you to make sure you aren’t latching on to day dreams that serve only to distract you. Yes, it may be fun to imagine your trip around the world in a hot air balloon, but that kind of escapism can be detrimental if you never get around to making concrete goals in reality. Know that many of your fantasies would not actually make you happy or be that fun and life fulfilling. That hot air balloon trip?- miserable.  As it turns out you have a fear of heights, small spaces, and peeing in a jar. Distinguish between things that are fun to imagine and things you actually want to do in the real world. Put aside the fantasies for a little bit now to do some goal setting.

How can I commit fully to my intentions this year?- III of Swords reversed
It’s time to leave sorrow behind. Your past hurts, regrets, and pain do not define you as a person. You are so much more than all the bad things that have come to pass in your life. Those circumstances need to be released so that you can create room inside of you for new experiences, new growth, new thoughts and feelings. If you are using up all your mental capacity on remembering your woes, you leave no room for contemplating your happiness. It’s time to devise ways to work through and release your pain. Some ideas are: go to therapy, talk to friends, journal, meditate, do a hypnosis session, etc.

Just as the VII of Pentacles reversed ask you to distinguish between fantasies and goals, the III of Swords reversed wants you to distinguish between unhealing wounds and mere slights. Deep sorrow from the past may change you forever, but it doesn’t make you incapable of moving on and finding gratitude and appreciation in everything that comes after it. You may never be the same after the death of a loved one, for example, but that does not mean you are incapable of experiencing joy and success every again. Less traumatizing past experiences can also be released and forgotten. That guy who stepped on your foot on the bus? Stop replaying in your head all the nasty things you could have said to him to make him feel bad. Your foot is fine! Don’t let you mind feed on a vicious cycle of negative. Try replacing those mean-spirited conversations in your head with positive affirmations and encouragement.

What can ground me in the joy of my responsibilities and goals?-
VII of Pentacles reversed
Try not to hold onto one vision of success. If you are obsessively focused on a fixed outcome, you lose the opportunity for spontaneity, for serendipity, to let your path unfold as you go. If there is only one acceptable outcome in your future, you create lots of pain and misery when you end up achieving something else, no matter how awesome that something else may be. Set your goals, but also allow the future to remain a mysterious place of varied outcomes. It is more important to be present and joyful in the moment, than to slave away toward a future that ultimately is unknowable. Not all means to an end are worth the goal. Don’t ruin the world now in an effort to create something to save it later, that just doesn’t make sense.

Remember to check in on your progress towards you goals often. Do you even want the same thing you started out to achieve now that you are working on it? Recognize all of the peripheral effects your striving has produced and check in on how you feel about these consequences. Just don’t grind along blindly towards your goals without giving them regular updates and attention. You may find that you have veered off course, and you may even like where you are headed more than your original goal! Otherwise, regular check ins will help you get back on track before you totally derail.
