The Chariot Soul Meditation

The Chariot tarot card from the Rider Wait Smith deck

The next Soul Meditation along the Fool's Journey for me was The Chariot card.  I've always liked the idea of The Chariot but never felt particularly connected to the strength, determination, and confidence that this card exudes.  I was looking forward to hopefully developing a closer vibration with this energy, and wasn't disappointed by the experience of this Soul Meditation.  As I began the meditation, I drifted off to sleep a bit on the relaxation element so I came into the card a little spacey and confused.  I saw The Chariot being drawn by the two huge sphinxes that were acting like horses.  The scene smelled of clean, river water and I could hear the river rushing in the background, as well as some clanging and clamoring from the city on the other side of the river.  The sphinxes stomped and wickered like horses.  The day was bright and warm.

I walked over to the right-hand side of The Chariot and the figure there reached down to grasp my hands and pull me up next to him. He told me that I have a journey before me, and that this Chariot is just like the van I will be moving into in June.  The open road is before me, I will live inside the van, and life's goals and mysteries will take me wherever I lead or follow.  I have to be strong, determined and confident and I will succeed.  The white sphinx represented my conscious goals and where I tell myself that I want to go.  The black sphinx represented my shadow side, and those uncontrollable mysteries in life to which I need to adapt and form myself around.

When I entered the body of the the Charioteer, I resonated with the depth of his self-confidence and denial of all outside forces that he might stand in his way.  I could feel that The Charioteer was ready and determined to go after and get whatever it is he wants without thought of failure. These emotions were strongly represented by the white sphinx and movement toward conscious goals.  When the Charioteer looked at the black sphinx he was reminded of his shadow self and that is is necessary to work with shadow energy as well.   Determination and strength of will are admirable, but the shadow work I am moving through is crucial for developing intuition and spirituality.  Generally, I work more comfortably with shadow energy than conscious energy.

When the Charioteer thought about the intuitive, spiritual forces that shape my road ahead, I felt a physical thrill through my heart.  I am so enthusiastic, committed and in love with the intuitive nature of the open road before me that I overwhelmed The Charioteer with my emotion. We separated bodies, our foreheads pressed together while he congratulated me and wished me luck on my soul journey as well as my physical journey.  I felt that we had taught each other much about the experience of conscious versus unconscious elements, and that this sharing had greatly benefitted us both.  He told me that I can drive my Chariot and not give up when other people try to control me, standing my ground when needed or going with the flow when required.  He gave me a deck of tarot cards as a symbol of my shadow work as well as physical work and also as a token of his total confidence that I could succeed as a reader.  We looked out at the long open highway in front of The Chariot, showing a landscape of the southeastern USA, the deserts, plateaus and canyons of Arizona and New Mexico.  The Grand Canyon was out there, I could feel it!  And I will get there!
