When Death Comes A Callin'- Rejoice?
I don't know about you, but I love drawing the Death card in a reading. And no, it's not because I love it when people or beloved pets die. What do you think I am, a monster?! Sometimes the Death card does indicate a mortal ending to someone dear to you, and that can be interpreted using the other cards in the reading and your general life circumstances. More often than not, though, the Death card comes along when a major change or transition is happening or soon to happen in your life. It's saying: this era will die, and therefore a new one will begin. I love new beginnings. I love change. I got this card recently in a reading focused on my decision to move into a van and travel the country. Great! I can't wait for the "death" of my job, apartment, commute, schedule, etc. and the start of something new, new, new! Bring on the Death! In this particularly reading I also drew the Knight of Pentacles, ready to set off on a practical journey to explore physical surrounding and the earth, and the III of Cups- time for celebrations, community, and drinking with friends! It was easy to see from those three cards, that this was going to be a happy Death and the start to an adventurous and exciting future. Don't get me wrong though, I realize transitions can be hard and I'm not immune to their difficulties and challenges. Sometimes we don't want things to come to an end, or we don't know how to change the things we don't like about our lives. If you see Death in a reading though, you might not have much choice in the matter- you have to change. Perhaps its best to focus on what a new beginning would look like, what do you want your life to be like and what things do you see there that aren't part of your life at present. Maybe this Death is an end to a time when you don't have what you need and can't get what you want, transitioning to a time when you believe in yourself enough to give yourself permission to manifest that great life you can imagine. I'm spending the next couple of months focusing on how to make my transition for 9-5 job and permanent apartment, to schedule be damned life and on the road. Even though I welcome this transition, it won't just manifest on it's own. I have to work hard to end things here in Boston in a good place, and start my new life cycle with as much foresight and good intentions as I can manage.
