A Chance to Reset — The Willow Path Tarot

How has your 2025 been going so far? I have to admit that January was not my most stellar month. I didn’t follow through on my goals. Well actually, I didn’t even get around to writing out my goals. I expected to spend the month filling out my planner, getting my exercise and other routines back on track after a wild December, and generally feeling tranquil and caught up.

But that’s not how things went down.

So I find myself wanting to hit the refresh button on the year. And the New Moon in Aquarius today is a perfect opportunity to do just that. This is the first New Moon of the year and New Moons are always a basic starting point or chance for a reboot. The first New Moon of the year is the Lunar New Year, which is a common celebration point that marks the beginning of a new year in many cultures that use a lunar calendar.

Aquarius is a sign of innovation and the creation of systems. This gives good energy for the creation of new routines, new ways of being, exciting offshoots and departures from the status quo. You can decide that the New Moon in Aquarius has the perfect vibe for making those resolutions to change your habits and leave old ways behind. Or you can just say, “The New Year starts today,” and see where that energy takes you.

This Aquarius New Moon is another chance to hit the reset button on your life. Since Aquarius is also related to technology, let’s use a metaphor of rebooting. Take some time today to turn off, to close out old programs, to shut down all systems, and take a break. Then, when you feel rested and ready to continue, turn yourself back on again, expect don’t open up all those apps and programs that you had running in the background. Only open programs or download new apps that fit with the version of yourself that you are trying to embody going forward.

If you’re not ready for a reset, that is totally fine. You’ll have another opportunity when the Sun goes into Aries in March, marking the start of the astrological year. That is another wonderful time to set intentions and shine a light onto the year ahead. Each New Moon is also a monthly chance to hit refresh and begin anew.

1. The X of Wands reversed is overburdened, overworked, and stressed out to the point of burn out. The best way to invite in new energy is to clear out the old. Put down the shit you don’t need to carry! It’s that simple. Sure, it may be hard to let go. If it was easy, you would have done it by now, right? But it’s time to get it into your head that you don’t need all that old baggage.

This applies even if you’re thinking of letting go of something that was very meaningful and fulfilling to you in the past. You are allowed to change, to move on, to outgrow. Look into your heart, you know it’s time for that thing to go. This is the process I’m going through with eliminating social media from my life. It’s something that I once loved, that I don’t know how to live without, but I know in my heart that it is time to figure it out.

You can also let go of things that you haven’t finished, even if you’re almost done with them! I know you were probably told that you need to finish what you’ve started, but I’m here to tell you that just ain’t true. You don’t have to finish everything you start! Actually, it’s wonderful to try things out, see if you like them, and then decide if you want to follow through. Isn’t that liberating? Don’t you want to live a life where you aren’t afraid to try new things because you know that you can let them go if they aren’t for you? This is where the innovation comes in and changes your world.

2. The Ace of Pentacles is here to help you ground and root into your new patterns and routines in the coming year. This card advises you to start at the beginning. Plant some seeds. Take it slow and steady to see what grows. This isn’t about going from zero to sixty in a few seconds, this is about the long haul. You don’t have to revolutionize your life in one month. What if you just used this month to figure out what seeds you want to plant and plant them?

Remember, your life isn’t a race to some finish line. You probably aren’t in a rush to get to the end of this thing, right? Your life is an unfolding, a becoming, and that takes time. Consider this a new stage of your grown as a person. You’re just beginning to see what is taking shape or emerging from the underground of your subconscious. Give yourself time and space to unfold.

It’s not that you can’t have self development goals and want to improve yourself in some way. But those goals are much easier to achieve if you already love and accept yourself just the way you are. You don’t have to change yourself, but you’d like to become even more of yourself. Align yourself with goals for the year ahead by picking ones that resonate with who you are on a soul level. Choose yourself, remember your inherent nature, and moving towards your dreams will be much more simple than if you choose what society tells you you should want or be.
